A New Chapter for Sight Loss Opportunity Groups in Ludlow and Oswestry

From July, Sight Loss Shropshire will be taking over the delivery of the Sight Loss Opportunity Groups in Ludlow and Oswestry, ensuring these valued local support groups continue to provide connection, friendship and practical support for people living with sight loss.

Thanks to the team at Community Resource, the Sight Loss Opportunity Groups have become an important lifeline for many local people, providing a welcoming environment where members can share experiences and take part in social activities.

Sight Loss Shropshire has worked closely with Community Resource to ensure a smooth transition, allowing the groups to continue serving local communities for years to come.

Penny, Activities Coordinator at Sight Loss Shropshire, will now lead the monthly sessions in Ludlow and Oswestry.

Swan Staar-Slogrove, Sight Loss Shropshire Manager, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Susann and everyone at Community Resource for the care, commitment and enthusiasm in developing and supporting these groups over the years. Their work has made a real difference to the lives of people with sight loss across the county. We are proud to continue their legacy and look forward to welcoming both existing and new members to the groups.”

Susann Mitchell, who has led the groups over many years on behalf of Community Resource, shared some of her reflections:

“Over the years, the groups have been about much more than activities. They have been spaces where people feel comfortable, supported and understood.

Through all the laughter, tears and conversations, I’ve seen such kindness, resilience and friendships being made. The support people give one another is so heartwarming.”

The groups welcome anyone living with any type of sight loss who would like to meet people with shared experiences.

As well as a chance to catch up with others, the groups offer a variety of activities and guest speakers, with plenty of opportunities to learn something new, pick up practical tips and enjoy trying different things together.
