A Special Thank You to Barbara
Celebrating a legacy of kindness, support and service
Recently, members of the Market Drayton VIP Group came together for a special surprise celebration to recognise and thank former group leader Barbara for her remarkable two decades of dedication, support and friendship.
Barbara was instrumental in establishing the group and, for more than twenty years, has been its driving force, bringing people together, offering encouragement and creating a welcoming place for people with sight loss to connect. Her kindness, commitment and willingness to help others have touched countless lives and made a lasting difference within the local community.
The celebration was made even more special by the attendance of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, who shared heartfelt thanks and recognised Barbara’s loyalty, compassion and outstanding contribution over the years.
Local councillor Roy Aldcroft also paid tribute to Barbara, highlighting her commitment as a group leader, community supporter and fundraiser.
Reflecting on her time with the group, Barbara said she felt blessed to have met so many wonderful people along the way.

Alongside her work with the Market Drayton VIP Group, Barbara served on the Sight Loss Shropshire Committee for 26 years, giving so generously of her time and support. Having stepped down from the Committee last year, she has witnessed significant changes and progress within the charity over the years and has played an important part in helping shape its development.

As Barbara hands over the reins to Nikki at the Market Drayton VIP Group, we know the group is in very safe hands and look forward to seeing it continue to flourish under Nikki’s leadership.
From everyone at Sight Loss Shropshire, thank you, Barbara, for the many years of outstanding service, friendship and commitment. Your contribution has made a real difference to the lives of so many people, and we are incredibly grateful.
Barbara’s dedication, insight and unwavering support have left a lasting legacy, both within Sight Loss Shropshire and across the local sight loss community.
