Are you visually impaired, or have a friend, family member or neighbour who lives with sight loss? Our free practical demos or one-to-one digital skills training sessions are here to show you how to make the most of accessibility features or use sight loss apps on your smartphone, tablet or smart speaker.

Join a volunteer-led demonstration or book a personalised one-to-one training session. Getting to grips with modern technology will improve your independence when managing daily tasks and ensure you stay in touch with loved ones. All training is tailored to people’s individual needs.

In Touch Telford – Free Tech Demonstrations in telford & WREKIN

Join a free practical demonstration at community hubs across Telford & Wrekin. Friendly volunteers will explain how to use various supportive sight loss apps and features on your Apple or Android smartphone or tablet.

No prior experience of technology is needed. Bring your phone or tablet, or you can practice with a demonstration iPhone, Android phone, tablet or iPad.

When are the sessions?

Twice monthly throughout the year, excluding January and December. All sessions will be bookable.

Where are the sessions held?

Telford Central Library, Newport Library, Wellington Leisure Centre and more. Check upcoming dates for details.

What can you learn?

  • voice commands to make phone calls and send text messages
  • dictation and features to check messages before sending them
  • listening to incoming messages and emails via the talkback function
  • composing email replies
  • navigating web pages using audio, browse the Internet, and consider deals and offers
  • apps that help with daily living, such as reading printed text on letters, package contents or cooking instructions
  • apps that help with public transport, bus destinations, and advance warnings of buses approaching or reaching your destination

Using smartphone and tablet sight loss features will enhance independence and improve communication, confidence and overall well-being.

Technology can be a powerful tool for independence, especially for those navigating sight loss. Our Shropshire Tech Talk Series provides practical, accessible guidance to help visually impaired people stay connected, informed, and confident in our digital world.

Whether you’re tech-savvy or just getting started, our free audio resources are designed to support you every step of the way. Home visits are available on request to provide support in a familiar environment.
