From Ideas to Impact: Capgemini and Birmingham Uni Students Make a Difference
Innovation Supporting People with Sight Loss
We’re incredibly proud to share the impact of a recent partnership with Capgemini and the University of Birmingham, which has delivered meaningful support for our charity and the people we work alongside.
As part of the Capgemini Community Challenge, five talented students from the University of Birmingham worked closely with our team to support two important areas of our work. Through their time, skills and fresh thinking, they have helped us strengthen how we connect with people living with sight loss and how we make best use of donated equipment.
Strengthening Our Reach
The students developed part of a practical marketing strategy and fresh ideas to help us reach more people affected by sight loss across our communities. For many, knowing where to turn for support at the right time can make a significant difference. Going forward, this work will help us share our services more effectively and ensure people receive information earlier on in ways that work for them.
Making Better Use of Donated Equipment
The team also created a practical framework for sharing donated sight loss equipment, to reach people who can benefit from them most, while also reducing waste. Their work has helped us to manage the promotion of donated items more efficiently.

The Power of Partnership
This project is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when charities, businesses and universities work together.
Capgemini’s Community Challenge provided the structure and support, while the University of Birmingham students brought energy, insight and a real commitment to making a difference.
We are hugely grateful to Capgemini, the University of Birmingham, and especially the five students involved for their professionalism, enthusiasm and genuine care for our cause.
Partnerships like this help us continue to develop our services and respond to the real needs of our community—and we look forward to building on this work in the future.
