A Partnership Bringing Local Support Together

It was fantastic to welcome so many people to the Living Well with Dementia, Sight and Hearing Loss Exhibition at Theatre Severn in June.

The event was organised in partnership by Sight Loss Shropshire, Community Resource and Radfield Home Care, bringing together more than 80 organisations and hundreds of visitors for a day of information, advice and practical solutions.

Support, Advice and Information in One Place

By bringing organisations together under one roof, this unique exhibition created a valuable opportunity for people affected by sight loss, hearing loss or dementia to meet local services, discover support and explore practical solutions and equipment that can help make everyday life easier.

For Sight Loss Shropshire, it gave us the chance to speak with visitors about the range of support available to people living with sight loss across the county.

From practical advice and technology support to social groups, activities and opportunities to meet and share experiences with others, we were able to highlight some of the ways we can help people live well with sight loss.

Discovering practical solutions

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity for visitors to discover different products, technologies and services for themselves.

Visitors could try tandem and adaptive cycling and take part in a trial walk with guide dogs. There was also the chance to discover the latest technology, including exciting innovations in virtual reality guide dog developments, Meta AI glasses, as well as explore new hearing aid technology and a range of assistive equipment designed to make everyday life easier and more accessible.

Visitors told us how much they valued the opportunity to speak with people who understood their experiences, discover new products and see them in person:

“Talking to people with a good understanding of my problems.”

“Finding new products and seeing them in real life.”

“Everything was here that I wanted.”
