Are you visually impaired or have a friend, family member or neighbour who lives with sight loss? Technology can help with daily living tasks, support independence, and ensure that you stay in touch with loved ones. Join our free demos and training sessions on smartphones and tablets, for both Apple and Android devices.

‘In Touch Telford’ are a friendly group of both sighted and visually impaired volunteers who have been trained by the RNIB on the accessible use of handheld devices. The team members have first hand experience and understanding for the problems that people living with sight loss face when trying to keep their independence. Join this free informal drop-in service as many times as you wish. No prior experience of technology is needed. Bring your own phone or tablet or try one of our demonstration iPhones, Android phones, tablets or iPads.

Our training covers

  • Use voice commands for phone calls
  • Use voice commands to send text messages. We will help you getting used to dictation and with a few tricks ensure that messages can be checked before sending them off
  • Listen to incoming messages and emails via talkback function and reply to emails
  • Navigate through web pages via audio, browse the internet, consider deals and offers
  • Useful apps that help with daily living, e.g. reading out printed text on letters, package contents or cooking instructions
  • Apps that help with public transport, e.g. identifying a bus’s destination, advance warning of when a bus is approaching or reaching your destination
